the detection handpiece is a diagnostic aid in identifying the presence of occlusal & interproximal caries in molars & pre-molars.The detection handpiece is recomended for the use in the detection of caries in pits & fissures & interproximal areas on the posterior teeth that have not been restored in wet invironment. The Midwest Caries I.D.uses LED and fiber optic technologies to accurately detect both occlusal & interproximal caries. The presence of either type of lesion is identified by 2 signals: an audible tone & a visual signal on the tooth.
The green light illuminates the tooth & indicates healthy tooth structure.
the red light indicates decalcification on the examined tooth.
Beeps ranging in speed (from slow to rapid) while illuminating the tooth red indicate the presence & location of caries.
