The use of methyl methacrylate in acrylic based dentures is almost universal. It's the liquid which creates the acrid chemical smell stinging the back of the nostrils the moment the bottle is opened. Stinging nostrils however is only the lessor of the unpleasant factors of methyl methacrylate monomer, it is also flammable, a strong irritant, causes skin sensitization and is a suspected carcinogen!
The Emperor Pouch system (EPS) has been developed which practically eliminates all the hazards of storing and using methyl methacrylate in the dental clinic, especially chairside. Just break the center-seal, mix powder/liquid then cut and squeeze out freshly mixed acrylic. Its ready in seconds without going through messy stages of dosing, timing or clearing-up. Most importantly you will be amazed how the working environment is only contaminated with volatile monomer vapor for the momentary period the mix is squeezed out of pouch and applied to the prothesis - a matter of a few seconds.
